Ascoli Piceno, Italy – Manuli Rubber’s plant in Ascoli Piceno, Italy is facing closure and further job cuts, according to reports in the Italian press.
In 2009, Manuli wanted to close the factory in Ascoli Piceno, which the company said was due to the economic crisis. But after negotiations with trade unions and national institutions, the company decided to keep the plant open. Some workers were reabsorbed back in to the company while others managed to ensure welfare support and voluntary redundancies.
Now less than a year after the recommencement of production, multiple reports in the Italian media indicate that Manuli has decided to permanently close two production lines putting 177 jobs at risk. And the press has suggested that the closure of the site was always one of Manuli’s strategic goals, citing the €25 million investment in a site in Poland.
Manuli, which manufactures hoses and fittings for high-pressure hydraulics and oil and marine applications, opened the Ascoli factory in the 1970s.
ERJ contacted Manuli, but no one at the company was available to make a comment and the company has not yet issued an official statement.
